California Sports Lawyer® Negotiation Competition at the Rose Bowl Stadium (February 22-23, 2024) (2nd Annual)

Now in its second year, Founder and Managing Attorney Jeremy Evans at California Sports Lawyer® presents the first of its kind California Sports Lawyer® Negotiation Competition at the world-famous Rose Bowl Stadium, in Pasadena, California, featuring JD, LLM, and MBA students on teams of two from the same university, including entertainment, media, sports law and business management topics.  The second annual competition will be held on February 22-23, 2024, at the Rose Bowl Stadium.

Registration: $1,000.

Third team member fee: $500.
Traveling coaches and faculty advisors: $300.

Includes: Negotiations held in iconic Terry Donahue Pavilion suites.  Networking and tours inside the stadium and on the field.  Prizes awarded to top four teams + Rose Bowl swag for all participants.  Industry and celebrity judges.  Food, beverage, symposium/speakers, and events as outlined below.

11:30 AM - Check-in for teams (Judges Orientation)

11:30 AM - 12:30 PM - Lunch in the Club Level overlooking the iconic field

1:00 - 2:35 PM -- Round 1

3:00 PM - 4:35 PM -- Round 2

4:45 PM – 7:00 PM – Tours of stadium and the field; Mixer (heavy appetizers and drinks); Keynote/Symposium. The teams who advance to the Final Round will be announced. Confidential information will be distributed to the final teams. Announce Best Advocate Award and other awards. *Thursday evening, offsite mixer.

8:30 AM - Breakfast and Judges Orientation

9:00 AM – 12:00 PM – Final Round with celebrity judges

Notes about the competition:

Three (3) judges per negotiation.  The first entertainment, media, and sports law negotiation of its kind.  Negotiation between two sets of JD/LLM/MBA students for each side.  Role play as representatives for client, negotiating a contract for their client (team vs. player, business vs. business, etc.).  Except for the final round, each team of two to three students from each school is provided general and confidential facts in advance of the competition (A versus B sides).  Three rounds (1, 2, and final).  

Potential Negotiation topics:  

First Round: negotiate the use of artificial intelligence and streaming performance revenue for a Hollywood union contract;
Second Round: negotiate the television revenue and term for a college power five conference with a streamer/broadcaster;
Final Round: purchase of a professional sports franchise, negotiate the sharing of entertainment, media, and sports content on multiple platforms, or negotiate with a city for the use of its resources for an F1 race in California.

About the Rose Bowl Stadium: The Rose Bowl is located in Pasadena, California. The Stadium opened in 1922 and is recognized as a National Historic Landmark and a California Historic Civil Engineering landmark.  Renowned sports announcer Keith Jackson referred to the Rose Bowl as the "Grandaddy of them all."  Sports Illustrated ranked the Rose Bowl as the number one college football stadium of all time.  The UCLA Bruins football team calls the Rose Bowl Stadium their home.
